September
14, 2002 ~ Mom got me a new Giggle Ball. It has clothes!! It's
dressed as a duck and I can carry it around by the tail and his
nose squeaks too. I'm so spoiled! Guess now when she gives me a
treat I'll not only sit but give her my paw too. It's the least
I can do huh?

September 8,
2002 ~ Gave em all a bit of a scare last week. Nikki left the
chair to close to Mom's desk so I hopped right up and helped
myself! Found some yummy cigarettes and had a few for lunch. I
was fine for the rest of the day but boy did I suffer the next
day. Mom had to call the vet cause she was worried. Because I
was acting like my old jolly self the DR. didn't seem to
worried. I had to take some Pepto Bismo to help calm down my
tummy and was feeling fine in no time.

Nikki had her 16th
Birthday Party on Friday and I got so much attention. All the
kids wanted to play with me. I wanted some cake and ice cream
but nobody would let me have any. :o( Well it's probably for the
best being as I get sick at the drop of a hat. Somebody did give
me a carrot though. I played with that sucker for more than an
hour till I lost it under the couch. Mom got it and threw it out.
I wanted it back but she said it was all hairy and nasty. She
never lets me have any fun.

8, 2002 ~ I'm so smart I can play with 2 things at once. Mom bought me these tiny tennis balls that I like second only to my giant jingle bell. Many times you'll find me holding a bone in my mouth and playing ball with my feets. You oughta hear it when I try to bark. My peoples laugh at me and tell me to stop talking with my mouth full.Another one of my favorites is my treat ball. I have a hard one and an easy one that I nudge with my nose whenever I need a lil snack. For some reason my doggy food tastes so much better when I have to work for it.
I live to make noise! If Mom's
on the phone or Dad is watching his favorite NASCAR show I find
the noisiest toys to play with. I also like playing basketball.
I drop my toys into the paper trash bag next to Dad's chair just
so I can watch him fetch it out. I especially like doing this
when he is trying to pay the bills, that way he HAS to pay
attention to me. Life as a dog... whatta life!! :o)

1, 2002 ~ I'm
still progressing nicely and growing by leaps and bounds.
Sometimes my Mom thinks I'm becoming a dog but then I trick her
and revert to my puppy stage. My peoples are finding out
just how smart us JRT's really are. I hear them say that I'm way
smarter than Lucky or Speedy! When they're being goofy they say
I'm even smarter than Nikki. *giggles* I can leap almost 3 feet
in distance and track down and find even the deepest buried
treats. If m & d ever decided to enter me into competition I
know I'd be a champion but ya know even if they don't I'm still
happy being their puppy dog.

24, 2002 ~
Look up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! NO IT'S SUPER
DOGGY!!! Who can leap tall gates in a single bound!! Heeheehee...
Must be that puppy chow!!
My mom keeps holding me up
and looking me in the eye and telling me to stop being a puppy
and be a dog but I won't listen. I like being a puppy. Then
other times she wants me to be the baby and tries to hold me
like a baby. I hate that 'cept when I'm tired, then I'll be
whatever she wants me to be as long as I can sleep next to her. She
says I'll like it more when I become a dog and I'm not as hyper
as I am now.
Mom also likes to play "This
Lil Piggy Went to Market" with my toes. You oughta hear her
(what a dork! *g*)...
when she runs outta piggys she makes up something goofy, seeing
as I only have 4 toes. Another thing I hate is when she holds me in one
hand and uses my stuffed animals to pretend they are kissing me.
A...hem... MOM I wanna eat em not kiss em. Oh well bein a dog is
so tough... She got me this cool
doggy that barks and you know how short our attention span is so
I gotta run! See ya... :o)

4, 2002 ~ Got another crate last weekend
and this time I hope to stick it out. I really do want this dog
to be house trained and the only way it's going to happen is if
I follow the rules for properly crating my puppy.
It's hard seeing her in that
cage but as long as she exhibits inappropriate behavior (like
eating the stuffing out of my chair) it's in the cage for her!
It's so cute... She knows it's her house because when she is
tired she automatically goes in to lay down.
Peanut Loveeeeesssss going
outside. She runs and chases all the dandelions and bits the
heads off the white fluffy ones. I won't let her eat the yellow
ones buts she still tries. Actually, she eats just about
everything outside. I have to distract her and remind her why
she is out there. It doesn't do any good yet but hopefully one
of these days it'll sink in.
We're only out for short
periods at a time and Peanut is never left unattended. She's
much to little to be left outside alone even on her chain. Heck
I'd be afraid one of the big birds or owls that come in our yard
would think she was a small rabbit and try to take her away.
Plus she hasn't gotten her rabies shot yet. The vet asked me
first if she goes out alone and when I said no he asked if we
could wait a bit for her to get older. And after what happened
with the distemper shot I'm glad we did.

16, 2002 ~ LOL!! If you could see me
now you'd laugh. It's like 900 degrees outside and Me and da
puppy are sitting here all wrapped up in a blanket (ac's on) I'm
typing with one hand cause the other one is busy holding this
rawhide bone while Ms. Thing happily chomps away.
Earlier I hadda point her head in the right direction so she
could
see the squirrels in her yard.... Sheesh.... One track mind
puppy....
Alls she wants to do is eat the chair!!
She is making progress though, last night I only had to yell PEANUT!! Knock it off and go to SLEEP!! twice. So she is getting used to being alone. :o)
Yesterday I couldn't find her and here she was buried under her blanket in her bed. She musta fell asleep playing with her monkey. I still haven't figured out how she has any room in her bed cause she brings EVERYTHING in there with her.
Ok it's official Peanut can
now successfully jump up and down off the couch without
assistance. It makes napping in her favorite sunny spot so much
easier.

Tuesday, March 19, 2002 ~ Oh the joys of puppy hood. This lil cutie does not like being alone and suffers from a major case of separation anxiety. I never knew such a teeny tiny puppy could make so much noise and be so loud.
She's not a bit shy though and will happily bark and play and chase your feet if you let her. Rather than let her destroy every room in the house we've purchased a puppy gate so the rest of the house is off limits. Free reign will come once she is properly house broken.
Feeding time is 3 times a day and before I put down her bowl I make her do something. She already knows the command to sit and we're working on shaking hands.
We finally agreed on a name.
We chose the name Peanut because she is so small and with her
bucky beaver teeth Nikki said it makes her look kind of nutty so
the name fits her well.

The Homecoming
Sunday, March 17, 2002 ~ Ahhh the pitter patter of puppy feets again. :o) Can you say poop on the paper? YEP!! Can the puppy do that? NOPE!! But she does do well at being held and cuddled and being played with.
We have tons of puppy playthings and chew bones ready but it seems she likes the phone cord best. Go figure...
Still no name yet but we're
thinking. I like the name Nik-Nac cause she's so little but
that's to close to my daughters name. Twister was another
selection because she's constantly trying to catch her tail.
Turbo was another choice as well as Loco, Miss Chevious, Shelby
and Nitro. Guess it'll come to us in time.

Sunday, March 17, 2002 ~ HI Again, Yay we get to pick up our puppy a day earlier. Now she really will be an official St. Patrick's Day Blessing. I talked to the owner and she told me it's a good thing we know all about the Jack Russell breed because our lil girl is going to be a feisty one. Feisty works for me!! :o)
I made the delightful trip to Pet Smart to get the necessary items we will need. Of course I spent way to much money but then I knew I would. *grin* Nikki went with me so every thing is tiger striped. I had to remind her we were getting a dog not a cat! I did manage to pick out a doggy bed for our family room while she was off looking at hamster stuff. Least it won't clash with the other stuff in the room.
So we're all ready for the big day. Stay
tuned for more updates next week. The Homecoming and
Doctor Meet
Our Puppy.

Saturday, Feb 16, 2002 ~ Howdy Folks, Well it's official. We are almost the proud owners of a brand new Jack Russell puppy. March 18th is the delivery date.
Ohhhh and the babies were so teeny!! And don't ya just love the sounds that new lil
puppies make? I quickly handed over our lil one to be to Chuck and it was all it took to
melt his heart toward the price we'll be paying for our newest addition. LOL!! (I knew it
would.. the ol softy!!) :o)
Judi, the owner of
Sunny Ridge
spent quite a bit of time with us, asked and answered tons of questions. Showed us around
the grounds. I was a bit taken back by the way the adult dogs were treated much in the
same way horses are kept. (of course without the barn) When I think about it I guess it
would be impossible and irresponsible to keep all those dogs in the house as family
pets.
They keep the male and females separate and not only did we see our puppy's Mom ~ Susi Q and Dad ~ Bruno but we saw the Grandpa too. (kinda made me feel good about the longevity of our lil one.) All the pens were clean and fresh, no musty or stinky smells and actually they were more like rooms than dog pens. It was heated, well lighted and ventilated. Not to mention well decorated with red and blue championship ribbons. It was obvious this breeder takes her job seriously.
It was a beautiful day and the dogs that were outside were in fenced in yards attached to a large barn like structure and the dogs had at least 25 feet of running and romping space.
All and all it was a wonderful experience having never seen that many Jack Russell's in one place before. It sure was an eye opening experience as well considering the conditions with which we purchased Speedy.
Take it from me folks if you are about to invest in a dog DO YOUR HOMEWORK!! Your first encounter should go much as I have stated above. If it doesn't RUN don't walk to the nearest exit.
Keep in mind yes you are just purchasing a pet but if you're like me this pet will quickly be integrated into your home and family life and before you know it with love and proper guidance you'll have yourself the most loyal and loveable companion your money could buy.
Stay tuned for more exciting updates. Next up we will be puppy proofing our house and
we'll be going shopping to prepare for our newest arrival. See ya soon. :o)
